Supported Independent Living
This service supports adults with developmental disabilities who live in their own homes in the community. No two people receive the same support through this service because, like all services offered by Community Living Parry Sound, Supported Independent Living centers its support around a person’s unique goals, interests, and needs. Our team of Community Inclusion and Support Facilitators provide support in a way that advocates for the inclusion of people with developmental disabilities in all areas of community life. Through Supported Independent Living, people create and strengthen their connections to the community-based resources (e.g. people, places, services) that inspire endless possibilities for living the life they want to, where they want to.
This can involve support with:
- Activities of Daily Living (medication administration, meal preparation, etc.)
- Skill building (life skills, social skills, financial skills, self-advocacy and self-determination etc.)
- System navigation (health, legal, community services, etc.)
The eligibility criteria for SIL support are not determined by Community Living Parry Sound, but by Developmental Services Ontario (DSO), the access point for adult developmental services. To be eligible to receive SIL support (per the DSO), one must be:
- 18 years or older
- diagnosed with having a developmental disability
- connected with the DSO and have been approved to receive Housing Supports from a provider in your area
