Warm for the Winter – Impact
It’s been a week since we hosted Warm for the Winter, the result of our two-week clothing drive made possible by the community’s generosity and willingness to help!
Since then, Belinda (the heart and soul behind this initiative) has been working to build an even bigger impact; she connected with our community partners at the Parry Sound Public Library and the Mary Street Centre to ensure that their warming initiatives were well-stocked with items left over from ours. Shout out to Cory Jarick for his support with these efforts!
Speaking of shoutouts, there are many we owe our thanks to, including the Hart Store, The Trading Post, and Mitch’s for helping us display all the donations with your clothing racks and hangers; the Canadian Coast Guard (Parry Sound Base) and the Parry Sound Family Health Team for your collection efforts within your workplaces; all the local businesses who helped promote the drive and the event; Stephanie and Mike La Rosa for their generous financial support of the initiative; finally, to everyone who sorted through their belongings and donated their new and gently used items to those in need.
Here’s a snapshot of the impact of their support:
– 55 people came through our pop-up warming centre and found what they needed for themselves and their loved ones (4 of whom were so grateful that they hugged Belinda in thanks)
– 15 people (unable to attend in person) had items brought to them
– an unknown number of people who received what they needed through their loved ones attending on their behalf PLUS those who will pick up what they need from our community partners
Based on these numbers and what we accomplished together in just 2 weeks’ notice, we have committed to re-launching this initiative next year – only BIGGER!
