Learn, Be Inspired, Lead.

Jen and Cory exploring Toronto before participating in the Learn, Be Inspired, Lead Workshop.

This past weekend, Cory Jarick travelled to Toronto to participate as a self-advocate at the “Learn, Be Inspired, Lead” workshop hosted by the Family Support Network for Employment. His lovely wife, Jennifer, accompanied and supported him as he shared his story about employment while sitting on the expert panel. Cory inspired all attendees with his story and showed that with dedication, passion and commitment, people of all abilities can be successful in employment. Cory’s take-home message: “To all of the employers out there, thank you for giving someone like me a chance to work. Hopefully you will give other people with disabilities a job because they may surprise you.”

Jacqueline Harrison, the acting Manager of Support Services at CLPS, was a contributing voice on a panel which focused on the obstacles and successes some agencies face when supporting people with developmental disabilities seeking meaningful employment.

Overall, the entire experience at the “Learn, Be Inspired, Lead” Workshop was incredible. We are so glad that Cory and Jen were willing to represent Parry Sound at this workshop – we are so proud to share a community with them!
