Cory and Jennifer Jarick
A chance meeting at a Halloween party in 2001 was the beginning of a true love story.
Cory and Jennifer Jarick say it was love at first sight. Neither had ever planned to be married; in fact they had both said that they were never interested in getting married. Undeniable attraction led them on a now 14 year journey that they intend to last a lifetime.
Cory asked Jennifer on a dinner and movie date the first night they met and the rest is history. After 3 years of dating he proposed marriage to Jennifer at yet another private dinner date. In overwhelming shock Jennifer agreed to be married. The planning began with the help of family and they were married less than a year later on September 10, 2005.
“The last ten years has been a challenge.” says Cory. Struggles with family, employment and housing have been their greatest but they have made it through together and say their marriage has just grown stronger as they continue to deal with life’s challenges one day at a time. Today they are much more comfortable, living in a home they love, Cory working and Jennifer looking for work, spending time together every day.
Cory and Jennifer are very proud that their 10 year anniversary is approaching this year. They decided to celebrate by renewing their vows. On September 12, 2015 they will renew their vows in front of more than 50 guests. “Our first wedding was very stressful but beautiful.” says Jennifer. “We wanted to do it again and plan it ourselves this time.” Cory adds “We have built a much stronger relationship in the last ten years and we want people to know how much our love has grown.”
With the support of Community Inclusion & Support Facilitators from Community Living Parry Sound (CLPS) they have planned the renewal of vows down to the finest of details. Jennifer will wear a periwinkle dress and Cory a tuxedo. They both say without the support from CLPS they would never be where they are today. Their workers helped them make choices about the ceremony by showing them a variety of pictures and explaining the possible venues and other options for their special day. Cory and Jennifer made all the final decisions including the officiant from the church that they choose to attend. They are very thankful for the support, although minimal, that they receive from CLPS not only with the wedding but over the past 10 years.
When asked what is the secret to marriage; Cory and Jennifer agree that it is communication. “Whenever we have a problem we sit down and talk it out as long as it takes” replied Jennifer.
So on September 12th Cory and Jennifer will meet at the end of the aisle and walk it together to the music they have chosen. They will renew their vows followed by a buffet dinner and dance at the Stockey Centre for Performing Arts. There will even be a candy bar for the children in attendance. They will follow their special day with a weeklong honeymoon at a resort in Muskoka.
“Always believe in yourself and stand up for what you want in life, that’s how we found true happiness together” Cory conveys.
Congratulations Cory and Jennifer and best wishes for a very long and happy marriage.
